Crime and Social Control

The one thing I really want to do after i graduate is become a police officer, that's why Chapter 4 in our Social Problems book interests me so much. This chapter is Crime and Social Control. Crime is the act of breaking the law and social control is basically preventing it and keeping society under control. This chapter was extremely interesting talking about all different kinds of crime from burglary to juvenile crimes. This chapter showed how to keep track of social control and how to enforce it by showing all the different strategies from surveys to major laws being passed from past wrong doers. This chapter was defiantly my favorite of this book because the things it showed about social control and crime happen every day and will help me in my future jobs.

A very interesting article about crime and social control can be found http://bjc.oxfordjournals.org/content/35/4/563.abstract

Another site on social control that talks about street crime and different ways of providing social control to help prevent it is http://www.historyisaweapon.com/defcon1/crimecontrol.html.

Also an interesting site http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crimersting, about the different recently dicoveried and solved crime of New York and main streem crime that have been shown on the news in the last few weeks. This website shows an in debth look at major crimes in the last few weeks.
